Episode 11 ft. Greg Farris: "Optimizing Performance through Nutrition"
Update: 2017-10-261
Description
On Episode 11 of the Philosophical Weightlifting podcast I was joined by Greg Farris. Greg is the founder of Myobrain, an online coaching service dedicated to providing personable coaching with scientific, evidence-based plans for fat loss, muscle gain and performance.
Greg received his B.S. in Health promotion from Emporia State University and went on to obtain a M.A. in Dietetics from The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Greg has competed in natural bodybuilding, powerlifting (at a national level), and Crossfit.
In this episode we discussed many topics, but some of the main talking points were:
- Background information: Competitive experience and education
- The most difficult aspect of training and nutrition for Greg and people he has worked with
- Optimizing performance through nutrition for strength/power and competitive fitness athletes (This was discussed in the context of a day, with Greg providing a nutrition protocol for breakfast, pre-workout, intra-workout, post-workout, and before bed)
- What supplements strength/power and fitness athletes should use pre- and intra-workout and why (i.e. BCAAs, Caffeine, Beta Alanine, Carbohydrate solutions)
- Finding resources to understand nutrition then developing a plan to adhere to the nutrition changes
- Why everyone should strength train and eat well and what doing these things has done for Greg
- The worst (most consistent) mistakes Greg has made as an athlete, coach, business man
- Resources outside of fitness that Greg would recommend to all listeners
- One thing you can do each day to change your life
This was another awesome show guys and I am so excited to have this opportunity. Thanks for listening and if you enjoy what you heard give us a like, share, and subscribe for future episodes.
